The first day has started with a pleasant surprise. Sude lost a tooth. It is not the first one she did loose, but the first one that was very obvious. It has been wiggling for a while, but she did not dare pull it. It finally got "stuck" to a donut at breakfast.
This was a four days trip. If anyone interested in some ideas, these are some of the things that we have done in day one.
Day one involved spending most of the time outside in the morning. If we had gotten up a little earlier, it would have been probably better. But this is a vacation, right? Sleeping in a little bit wouldn't hurt.
We went to the Lincoln Memorial area directly by taking the metro. We did not rent a car and metro was far more fun for the kids too.
We walked around the Lincoln Memorial and the other memorials in this area. Slowly we walked all the way to Washington Memorial. It was hot, but there was a little breeze... The stroller made a huge difference and we took lots of breaks.
Then, we went to the Holocaust Museum. In out last trip - before kids - this museum was not there. You need tickets to see the exhibit. The tickets are free but they are time specific. When we got there, they were giving tickets for 2:00 pm. We decided not to go in. But there is a section for the kids that we could get in. It is very well done. It was appropriate for the kids and told the story of a kid named Daniel. At the end, kids wrote letters to Daniel who has lost so much...
For lunch, we stopped by the old post office. They have turned it into a little tourist mall and food court. Although it was the first day, I did all my gift shopping here. There are bunch of vans outside that you can get the same stuff probably cheaper, but they accept credit cards here. Also they had a good selection and it was air conditioned. I did not have to worry about it again.
We have spent the rest of the day indoors in the National History Museum. There was so much to see and play with for the kids, they did not want to leave. We decided to try to make some time again another day since we were not able to see all the exhibitions.
We have finished the day at a Spanish tapas restaurant called, Jaleo. Korman was not thrilled but everybody else thought it was pretty good...
