After doing couple of road trips in US and Canada, we decided that we can handle a road trip in Turkey. It was a 7 day trip with several stops. The first day of our trip, we left Bursa pretty early. Bursa is where we have spent most of our summer. Our plan was to focus on northern Aegean sea coast since it gets really hot when you go towards the Mediterranean at this time of the year.
Our first stop was an historical site of the city of Troy. The world is a lot more familiar with the history of Troy since Brad Pitt made a movie about it...
The horse is of course not the original but it was very cool for the kids to see. We also found out that the horse that was used in the movie is also in Turkey, Canakkale, but we did not get a chance to see it.
We climbed to the top easy but it was not as easy to go down...
After a late lunch we headed to one of the only two Turkish islands in the Aegean coast; Bozcaada. There is a ferry from the main land every hour that you can take with your car which by the way we borrowed from my mother in law. We enjoyed sitting outside, feeling the wind and licking ice cream. This is one of the things that I love about Turkey; even in the middle of the summer you can always enjoy outdoors.
In the island, we stayed in a vineyard. The vineyards in the island are simple but comfortable. Below is the main house and they also had a guest house with extra rooms. We had clean rooms and sheets and air conditioning. The breakfast was included which was to die for (more to come on breakfast in the next post)
For the rest of the afternoon, we sat under the olive trees and just enjoyed the quietness of the island.
We met up with some relatives of my husband for dinner and had good food looking over the marina. I did not get to take a picture of the food since the lighting was not very good. But the view was spectacular...
